At KidsHeart Medical Center, we use 2D Trans-thoracic Echocardiography (TTE) as a key diagnostic tool to evaluate the heart’s chambers, valves, and overall pumping function.
This non-invasive ultrasound provides real-time images of your heart — helping detect a wide range of cardiac conditions without discomfort or downtime.

We offer 2D echo services across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain, ensuring fast, accessible cardiac imaging for all adults.
TTE is one of the core diagnostics offered through our Adult Cardiology Services.

A Live Look at Your Heart, From the Outside

A 2D echocardiogram (echo) uses sound waves to create a real-time moving image of your heart — its chambers, valves, and pumping strength — all without any needles, radiation, or sedation. It’s one of the most informative and comfortable tests in cardiology.

What Can an Echocardiogram Find?

A 2D echo can reveal a wide range of issues: heart muscle weakness, valve problems, fluid around the heart, structural abnormalities, and the heart’s overall pumping efficiency. It’s the go-to test for many cardiac complaints and follow-up situations.

The Test Is as Simple as an Ultrasound

You lie comfortably on your side while a technician applies gel to your chest and gently moves a small probe across the skin. The scan takes about 20 to 30 minutes, causes no discomfort, and you can go straight back to your day when it’s done.

When Is an Echo Typically Recommended?

Your cardiologist may recommend a 2D echo if you have chest pain, breathlessness, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, or a known heart condition that needs monitoring. It’s also commonly used before surgery and after any cardiac event to assess how the heart is doing.

Already Diagnosed? Echo Is How We Track Your Progress.

If you’re being treated for heart failure, valve disease, cardiomyopathy, or high blood pressure, regular echocardiograms are one of the best ways to see whether your treatment is working. We use them for monitoring just as much as for diagnosis.

What is a 2D Echo (TTE)?

A 2D Trans-thoracic Echocardiogram (TTE) is an ultrasound scan performed from outside the chest.
It uses sound waves to create images of your heart in motion, allowing cardiologists to assess:

  • Heart chamber size and thickness
  • Pumping strength (ejection fraction)
  • Valve structure and function
  • Blood flow direction and pressure
  • Presence of fluid around the heart (pericardial effusion)
  • Congenital or acquired structural abnormalities

It’s safe, quick, and often the first test ordered when evaluating heart symptoms.

When is a 2D Echo Recommended?

A 2D TTE may be recommended if you:

  • Experience chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, or fainting
  • Have a history of high blood pressure or heart murmur
  • Are being monitored for valve disease, heart failure, or cardiomyopathy
  • Require pre-surgical cardiac clearance
  • Are under follow-up after heart surgery or a cardiac event

It is also used to monitor the effectiveness of ongoing treatments or heart medications.

What to Expect During the Procedure

The 2D echo is:

  • Completely non-invasive: No needles or sedation
  • Painless and safe: Uses ultrasound, not radiation
  • Quick: Usually takes 20–30 minutes
  • Performed while lying down: A technician will apply gel to your chest and move a handheld probe (transducer) across your skin to capture heart images

You can resume normal activity immediately afterwards.
