HPV Vaccination Programs
HPV Vaccination Programs
Prevention that starts well before symptoms ever could.
Human papillomavirus is the most common sexually transmitted infection globally and the primary cause of cervical cancer.
Vaccination before exposure offers the strongest possible protection. At KidsHeart Medical Center, our gynecology services include structured HPV vaccination programs for adolescents and young women across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain.
What HPV Vaccination Protects Against
The HPV vaccine targets strains most strongly linked to cervical cancer, as well as those associated with genital warts and other HPV-related cancers. Current vaccines protect against:
- HPV strains 16 and 18, responsible for the majority of cervical cancer cases
- HPV strains 6 and 11, which cause most cases of genital warts
- Additional high-risk strains covered by newer vaccine formulations
The vaccine does not treat existing HPV infection. Its value lies entirely in prevention before exposure.
Who Should Receive the Vaccine
The vaccine works best before any HPV exposure. We recommend it for:
- Girls and young women from age 9 to 26 as the primary target group
- Adolescents not yet vaccinated who are approaching or in their teens
- Young women up to age 45 who may still benefit, assessed on an individual basis
- Those who have received previous doses and need to complete their schedule
The Vaccination Schedule
The number of doses depends on the age at which the program begins.
- Two doses for girls who start the program before age 15, given six to twelve months apart
- Three doses for those who begin at age 15 or older, given over six months
- A pre-vaccination consultation to confirm eligibility and discuss any questions
- Follow-up to ensure the schedule is completed and recorded correctly
Completing the full schedule matters. Partial vaccination offers reduced protection.
